Living on Mission in a Culture of Chaos

Preacher:
Passage: Titus 1:1-16
Service Type:

Every generation of believers eventually discovers what Titus learned on the island of Crete: God does not place His people in comfortable cultures—He places them in collapsing ones. Titus 1 is not a quiet pastoral memo; it is a battle briefing. Paul sends Titus into a world marked by deception, confusion, moral compromise, and spiritual distortion, and he tells him to build, to lead, to confront, and to bring order where there is chaos. That assignment wasn’t just for Titus. It’s for every follower of Jesus Christ.

This message draws a straight, unavoidable line from Crete to our world. We live in a culture where truth is flexible, convictions are negotiable, and spiritual confusion is normal. Many believers feel the pressure: homes under strain, faith under fire, loyalties divided, and voices competing for our attention. Yet Scripture insists that none of this is accidental. God places His people intentionally. He positions them purposefully. And He equips them to stand with courage when everything around them bends.

In Titus 1, God reveals His strategy for moments like ours—not louder outrage, not better marketing, not cultural retreat. His answer is transformed people whose character, convictions, and conduct display the power of the gospel. Before God uses us to influence our church, our community, or our culture, He calls us to bring order to our own lives: our homes, our habits, our priorities, our witness.

This sermon invites every believer to see their present place—whether Port O’Connor, a workplace, a school, or a neighborhood—not as an accident but as an assignment. You weren’t saved to escape your culture. You were saved to engage it with truth, courage, and godliness. Don’t run from your Crete. Redeem it.
